If we solve for for x-squared, we would have [tex] x^{2} =-5[/tex] and then [tex]x=+/- \sqrt{-5} [/tex].  The solutions are [tex]x= \sqrt{-5} [/tex] and [tex]x=- \sqrt{-5} [/tex].  Both solutions are non-real because you can't take the square root of a negative number without involving the imaginary "i".
