If John bought two shirt for the same price and a hat that cost $4.50, what was the price of each shirt if he paid a total of $18.00 for all three items?

Subtract the cost of the hat from the total:

18.00 - 4.50 = 13.50

Divide that by number of shirts:

13.50 / 2 = 6.75
