The length of a rectangle is 5 less than its width. The perimeter is 26 meters. What are the two dimensions of the rectangle.

The length can't be less than width. I think you meant width is less than length. Let x be the length of the rectangle, x-5 would be the width. We have an equation:
[tex]2(x + x - 5) = 26 \\ 2x - 5 = 13 \\ 2x = 18 \\ x = 9 \\ x - 5 = 9 - 5 = 4[/tex]
So the length is 9 and width is 4
