Rocky surfaces is the characteristic that both Mercury and Mars share. Mercury has a solid surface that is covered with craters and the surface of Mars is rocky and covered with canyons, volcanoes and craters all over it.
Other characteristics differ a lot. Mercury has no moon but Mars has 2 moons. Both Mercury and Mars have a thin atmosphere. Mercury has no to thin atmosphere. And temperature fluctuations are very vast between the two planets.
