African Americans were used as slaves, they would farm, pick cotton, cook, clean, they would be doing all the hard work while the whites (slave holders) would make all the money.
They were used to farm crops, such as cotton, and they were used for housework. They were used kind of like a currency, they had a value and could be traded for other valuable materials.
