Pentyl ethanoate is a carbon compound known as ester. When an ester reacts with water, it is known as a hydrolysis reaction. During hydrolysis, pentyl ethanoate (ester) will dissociate in to a carboxylic acid and an alcohol. In this case, the pentyl ethanoate will dissociate into ethanoic acid and pentanol.
