You are basically asking: is -18 greater than -14?

Then answer is no. -18 is less than -14, because the numbers are negative, and so -18 is farther from the origin than -14.

Another way to see this is by multiplying the inequality by -1 (and changing the inequality sign):

since [tex]14<18[/tex], then [tex]-14>-18[/tex]
