No, similar to the English, they were looking to colonize some parts of North America. The French have a history of fur trading with Natives as the coureurs des bois during the beaver wars. Although, they were nicer to the Natives than the English, they still wanted to take their land in the end. That’s why they moved to Canada instead lol.
