RELIGIOUS DISSENTERS
Massachusetts was founded by Puritans, which were people who wanted to purify the Church of England. Puritans wanted to remove Catholic practices from the Church of England, and because of this, they faced discrimination and persecution, so they traveled to the New World in search of religious freedom, settling on territory that would become the colony of Massachusetts.
