When Philip II came to the throne he created a powerful army and Macedonia became the main power of the Greek world.  The Macedonian army defeated Greece in 338. B.C. After that, Philip II was assassinated, so his son Alexander the Great came to the throne. Alexander the Great soon invaded the Persian Empire.
