The British tax policies helped to move the colonists closer to rebellion because these tax policies greatly angered and alienated the average colonists and their political elites. The tax policies sewed the seeds of distrust and anger at the British for the idea that the colonists were being taxed unfairly and that they lacked proper representation in government.
