A. Judy made a mistake between Steps 1 and 2
To factor [tex] x^{2} - 16[/tex], you have to factor it as [tex](x-2)(x+2)(x-4)[/tex], not [tex](x-2)(x+8)[/tex], because that will leave an extra 6x because of 8x - 2x.
