The population of a certain town doubles every 24 years. If the population of the town was 8,000 in the year 2000, in what year will the population be 128,000?

Well, if it doubles every 24 years, 128 = 2^7, and 8 = 2^3. Since 7 - 3 = 4, you can do [tex] 24 \cdot  4[/tex] which equals 96
