first we need to find what volume we need from the stock solution.

we need to use the dilution formula--> C1V1= C2V2

C1= 3.5 molar
V1= 3.0 liters
C2= 18.2 molar
V2= ?

let's plug in the values into the formula.

3.5 x 3.0 = 18.2 x V2

v2= (3.5 x 3.0) / 18.2= 0.577 Liters or 577 mL

statement: Take 577 mL of 18.5 molar HCl stock solution and add enough water to obtain 3.0 liter of solution to make the 3.5 molar HCl solution.
