[tex] 5x - 3y = -20 [/tex]
[tex] x = 3y - 16 [/tex]

Plug in 'x' into the first equation:

[tex] 5 (3y - 16) - 3y = 20 [/tex]
[tex] 15y - 80 - 3y = -20 [/tex]
[tex] 12y = 60 [/tex]
[tex] y = 5 [/tex]

Plug in 'y' into the second equation to get 'x':

[tex] x = 3y - 16 [/tex]
[tex] x = 3(5) - 16 [/tex]
To get [tex] x = -1 [/tex]

[tex] y = 5 [/tex]
[tex] x = -1 [/tex]
