ATOMIC NUMBER= 8
This means it has total 8 electrons.
First comes K(n=1) shell. It can hold a maximum of 2 electrons. So we are left with 6 electrons which are accomodated in L(n=2) shell before bonding.

There are total 8 electrons in shells of oxygen ......before bonding 2 electrons in first shell and remaining 6 in the next shell.....& oxygen need more 2 electrons to complte its 2nd shell
