The fraction of children was 3/8
The remaining fraction was 1-3/8=5/8
the fraction of men was 3/4*5/8=15/32
the fraction of women=1/4*5/8=5/32
given that the there were 140 more children than women, the fraction represented by this is:
3/8-5/32
=7/32
thus the total number of people who were there was:
1/(7/32)*140
=640
The answer is 640
