What challenges did the early english settlers face in the chesapeake (jamestown)?

There were numerous challenges. They didn't know the land and they didn't have any cultivated land that could be used for food. They also had  to deal with the natives and their relations weren't exactly friendly. There was a lot of diseases that they weren't used to and a lot of people died.
