Why is success so important to Jing-Mei's mother?

Jing-Mei's mother is so worry about her daughter´s success because she does not want her to suffer what she did. she might her to have a better life, to fulfill the AMerican dream. It is a great pressure for Jing-Mei and she ends giving up her practise and playing the piano at all.
