The answer is:  " -11 ¼ ";  or write as:  " -11.25 " .

-4 ½ * 2 ½  =   [tex] \frac{-9}{2} [/tex] * [tex] \frac{5}{2} [/tex] = [tex] \frac{(-9*5)}{(2*2)} [/tex] 

= [tex] \frac{-45}{4} [/tex] ; which equals:  " -11 ¼ ";  or write as " -11.25 " .
