Becker proposed that marijuana users enjoyed using the drug because of the company that they spent time with. This means that if the people that you spend your time with are using it, you will too, and eventually you will come to enjoy using it. This stems from the theory of Differential Association, in which you learn behaviors that you will come to follow and use through the actions of others.
