George Herbert Mead was a psychologist and philosopher whose studies led him to believe that human beings begin to develop their own self image through their interactions with others. This lays the groundwork for the development of the personality. Understanding the difference between "self" and "other" and being able to consider how others will respond to oneself further this process.
