The answer is subtract.

For example:

[tex] \frac{3x^2 - 3}{x+2} - \frac{x^2+6}{x+2} [/tex]

[tex] \frac{3x^2 - 3-x^2-6}{x+2}[/tex]

[tex] \frac{2x^2-9}{x+2} [/tex]
