You need to know the formula for surface area to solve this: 2ab + 2bc + 2ac
You are given the measures of the sides, so plug them into the formula, 2(4)(4) + 2(4)(7) + 2(4)(7) = SA. Solve this to find the surface area, 144 cm. Then to find the measure of it without the top included, find the measure of the top, 28 cm. Subtract this from the original surface area to get 116.
