Hi there!

The standard form of a quadratic equation is
[tex]f(x) = a {x}^{2} + bx + c[/tex]

So in this case, when working out the parentheses, we'd get the following:
[tex]f(x) = 4( {x - 1)}^{2} - 8[/tex]
[tex]f(x) = 4(x - 1)(x - 1) - 8[/tex]
[tex]f(x) = 4( {x}^{2} - 2x + 1) - 8[/tex]
[tex]f(x) = 4 {x}^{2} - 8x + 4 - 8[/tex]
[tex]f(x) = 4 {x}^{2} - 8x - 4[/tex]
